How to use the calculator
Specify outer diameter D and wall thickness t in millimeters, then the length of one element in meters and the integer number of pipes. Fractional values can be entered separated by a period or comma.
Calculation formula
S = π / 4 × [D² − (D − 2t)²]
m₁ = S × 10⁻⁶ × ρ
The square difference describes the area of the ring between the outer and inner diameters. Square S turns out in mm² and converted to m². Density of steel ρ taken equal to 7850 kg/m³; m₁ expressed in kg/m.
Designations
- D
- pipe outer diameter, mm;
- t
- wall thickness, mm;
- D−2t
- pipe internal diameter, mm;
- S
- metal cross-sectional area, mm²;
- ρ
- steel density, 7850 kg/m³;
- m₁
- estimated weight of one linear meter, kg/m.
Calculation example
For pipe D = 57 mm and t = 3 mm internal diameter is 51 mm, cross-sectional area — 508,94 mm², and the mass of one meter — 3,995 kg. Pipe length 6 m has a calculated mass 23,97 kg.
Accuracy and Limitations
Result — geometric design mass of an idealized annular section. The calculation does not take into account dimensional tolerances, production features and actual material density. This is not a standard value of the assortment and not a statement of compliance with a specific GOST.
